Only untill May 24th 2010, you can now get your own free copy of the award winning Portal via Steam game distribution software. Steam is by far my favorite thing that has happened to PC gaming in the last few years.. it had a very rough start imo. I remember when it just came out and how it was only 5% functional and my CS clan and I hated every aspect of it. Now it has become the best way to get games on your PC…
AND NOW MAC!
Thats right, Steam is now available for MacOS! As a celebration, they are offering Portal for free for a limited time only. So get it while you can! http://store.steampowered.com/freeportal/

OK, now the real wait begins… I really need a Linux Client!
Concidering MacOS is for the most part UNIX, the port over to Linux should be a much easier step for the developers. Since Mac has had a huge impact on the market, it was only a matter of time before we would start seeing it as a viable gaming platform. If all my games ran on a Mac, would I still buy a Mac? Thats a good question… I dont know. I am still a fan of bleedig edge games and cannot see them running their full potential on a Mac or Linux in the near future. No matter what way you look at things.. right now they are still ports and will be running on OpenGL. Some systems may find games operating better like this… but without DirectX.. dont expect to be playing any games that have been released with any form of stunning visuals or high end effects only found in the last few revisions of DirectX.
So At this point, I am still a PC. My reason is because I’m a PC gamer and thats where it is at in the computer world and will be for a while to come. When I am not operating on Windows, I am most likely in a Linux environment (FreeBSD, Debian, Gentoo are my distros of choice). I find it very hard to spend the extra 1/3 in price for the same hardware but with the sleek Mac design and an operating system that I do not have a use for at this point.
